About Herencia Colombiana Folk Dance
Herencia Colombiana Folk Dance is a Colombian folk dance group based in Edmonton, Alberta. On its own channel it presents itself, in English and Spanish, as an organization dedicated to preserving and celebrating the traditions of Colombia through dance, with dancers wearing the typical costumes of Colombian folklore.
Its mission is to keep Colombian heritage alive in Canada and its vision is to become an ambassador of Colombian culture in this country, safeguarding the origins of folk dance for future generations. The group fosters a warm, inclusive environment where Colombians in Canada recognize themselves in their music, their colours and their celebrations.
In 2026 the group performed at the Edmonton Heritage Festival and at the ¡Alegría! Latin American Cultures festival at the University of Alberta Botanic Garden, and took part in Edmonton's Canada Day Latino & Soccer Fest. Its performances feature white skirts with red, blue and yellow ruffles, sombrero vueltiao hats, red neckerchiefs and lanterns, in joyful choreographies that bring Colombian folklore to Canadian audiences.
